PROBLEM OF PRACTICE
At the Johnston County Lab school, Innovation Academy at South Campus, learning is accomplished through personalized experiences. Teachers plan playlists and pathways so that students can learn independently and at their own pace. For students who are in the EC sub group, learning is happening at a slower pace and students are often off task and unfocused. I would like to work with the 6th grade teachers so that we can take a closer look at the EC students in this grade and personalize their learning more, so that they can use their time more effectively to complete assignments and score higher on their assignments.

Professional Development for Teachers
During the month before school closure from COVID-19, the sixth grade teachers participated in an ongoing professional development to better understand personalized learning. During this professional development we analyzed learner profiles, student survey data and completed learner profiles. We began having discussions on how to change lessons according to the learner profile results. Ultimately, we wanted all of our students, including EC students, to be more focused. |
