PTO
One of my duties when I was a resident at West Smithfield Elementary was to be the administrator that worked with our newly formed PTO. I was in charge of setting up the monthly meetings by creating the agenda as well as scheduling the meetings. I also assisted the PTO with setting up all fundraisers as well as other events. Since the PTO was newly formed, they needed a lot of guidance and relied on me to support them when organizing events. One event that I helped organize was the Fall Festival. I worked closely with our parent liaison to put together a plan of action. I had to look at all aspects of putting on a large event. I had to think about items we needed to purchase or rent, duties for all staff members, the logistics of game set up, as well as marketing the event with our school community. I learned that it is not easy to take on a big project alone and that I should have asked for help to distribute leadership among the members of the PTO.

Remind and Social Media
One of my duties at Innovation Academy is to oversee buses. I would take care of all bus discipline and had regular communication with the area bus coordinators in our county. Since our students are bused from all over the county , it is important that I formed relationships with all of the bus coordinators. In order to keep parents informed of any route or bus changes, I created a group with the Remind app. Everytime one of the bus coordinators new of a change, I would inform the parents through the app. Creating this group eliminated phone calls placed to the school about bus information. Parents were able to reach out to me directly with any issues or concerns. I learned parents appreciated the information and you can never give them too much!
I also have used my own social media accounts to support events that the school is having. By sharing on social media, I am able to assist with the event by drawing interest to those who follow me.

B. Federal, State and District Mandates: The school executive designs executive protocols and processes in order to comply with federal, state and district mandates.
Tornado Drill and Monthly Fire Drills
In compliance with state guidelines, I was asked to review and conduct the statewide Tornado Drill at our school. During our Community meeting that morning, I announced that we would be conducting the drill. I reminded the school community of the physical position they needed to be in and the locations. If anyone had any issues when completing the drill, I asked them to contact me in our group messaging app. Before I conducted the drill, I asked staff to check in with some of our substitutes in the building and to help them if necessary. I learned that when you prepare ahead of time and review existing procedures, drills like this go smoothly. For December, January, February and March, I was responsible for keeping up with our monthly fire drills and documentation. I learned to plan fire drills with my principal mentor a month in advance so that we do not forget to do them. |

Updating the Emergency Management Plan One of my duties at IA is keeping up with our school's Emergency Management Plan and the school's black boxes that house all of this information. I did not know that there was an online system that the county used to house additional information. Once I gained access to the online platform, I had to update all the sections with this year's current information. I enlisted the help of my data manager to create class rosters and information sheets. Knowing that this platform exists, I can update this information at the beginning of the school year instead of doing it so late in the school year. |
